Post-print finishing

Support removal, sanding, priming, painting and assembly.

Standard finish (included)

Supports and loose strings are removed and sharp edges are cleaned. Small marks may remain where supports touched the part, and layer lines will be visible.

Optional finishes

  • Sanding: progressively finer grits reduce layer lines on visible surfaces.
  • Filler primer: fills remaining lines for a smooth, paint-ready surface.
  • Painting: acrylic or spray paint for multi-colour or detailed finishes.
  • Clear coat: adds gloss or matte protection over paint.
  • Inserts and assembly: heat-set threaded inserts, magnets or gluing multi-part prints.

Finishing at home

  1. 1Wear safety glasses when removing supports; use flush cutters and pliers.
  2. 2Sand with 200 grit, then 400, then 800 — wet-sand for a smoother result and less dust.
  3. 3Wipe clean, apply thin coats of filler primer and sand lightly between coats.
  4. 4Paint in thin coats, letting each dry fully.
  5. 5Seal with a clear coat if the part will be handled often.

Care

  • Keep PLA parts out of hot cars and direct summer sun.
  • Clean with a damp cloth; avoid solvents such as acetone unless you know the material.
  • Standard prints are not food-safe or certified for medical or safety-critical use.
