What is 3D printing?
How a digital model becomes a physical object, layer by layer.
The short version
3D printing builds an object from a digital model by adding material one thin layer at a time. At KEIS DIGITALS we use FDM (fused deposition modelling) printing: plastic filament is melted and laid down in precise paths, each layer bonding to the one below until the part is complete.
Good uses
- Prototypes and product concepts.
- Replacement parts, brackets, clips and holders.
- Display pieces, figurines, signage and name plates.
- Custom gifts, keychains and branded items.
What to expect
FDM parts show fine horizontal layer lines and are slightly weaker between layers than along them. Accuracy is typically within a few tenths of a millimetre, depending on size, material and settings. Very fine detail (under about 0.5 mm) may not reproduce cleanly.
